EDUCATION

The purpose of Christian Education is to provide a solid grounding in the stories and principles of the Bible which underpin our understanding of history, morality, and the Christian faith.

Sunday Church School

Our Sunday School program starts in October and welcomes children ages 4 through early elementary grades. Two monthly sessions will be offered (dates will soon be confirmed). We plan to expand the program to every Sunday and envision a separate class for older children.

Sunday School runs from 10 to 11 AM, starting with a brief "family worship" period in the Church sanctuary that includes a children's sermon. The children then meet with two adults upstairs in the Church to learn about the unconditional love God has given them through His son, Jesus Christ. Through Jesus' many parables and teachings, we also emphasize foundational values such as kindness, caring, truthfulness, and respect.

The Bible, contemporary stories, drama, crafts, games, music, and mission projects will be used to teach. We strive to make our learning fun and connected to the children's experiences outside of Church. For example, if your child participates in "Soccer Shots," we may learn about "Jesus as our Superhero" when Soccer Shots has their "Superhero Week"! Parents are always welcome in the room and to see the materials we use for teaching.

Confirmation

Confirmation is a special learning period for youth, generally in the 7th and 8th grades. We participate with other nearby churches so youth are part of a larger community exploring their faith. Confirmation provides an opportunity for discussion, active learning, and thinking so that we can grow in our relationships with God and one another. During these two years, they will learn the content of our faith, found in the Bible and Lutheran teaching materials including Luther's Small Catechism. Most of all, we learn why faith in God matters in our daily lives as pre-teens. Our program includes direct instruction, service projects, field trips, and retreats. Each student has a faith mentor from the congregation who will support them through this process.

New Ministries

We are looking to add activities for young people outside of Sunday worship. These activities will enrich the relationship between the young person and God and build a supportive and strong community with their peers. Our goal is for our young people to know God loves them and to help them learn to make this world a better place as they mature. Please stay tuned to new developments posted online or ask any church leaders or our pastor about our progress!
